In anticipation of the NY Cares Food Writing Project I am thrilled to launch this new blog. Over the next few months I, a group of students, and no doubt, the most wonderful group of volunteers one could hope for, will be involved in a series of field trips and in-school sessions where we'll be writing food blogs. We'll be scouring NYC to experience a wide selection of dishes and will introduce a group of students to writing about food.
I moved to the US from the United Kingdom approximately 9 months ago. I live in NJ with my wife and we're both vegetarians on somewhat complex ethical grounds (more on this over the next few months, I'm sure). I have a little experience writing about food as I volunteered for an organisation in Wales, and produced a report on a successful organisation called TARAGGAN. This organisation created a community allotment in the Welsh Valleys, and they bring children and adults from throughout the village to learn more about how food is grown, and to work together to grow vegetables in their shared allotment. You can read about the program here and here.
I'm super excited to meet everyone, to learn more about NYC's food, and to write more on this blog.
